Daily Challenge

Today I am really challenging myself. My daughter's birthday party is tomorrow and we are doing a princess theme. She loves Sleeping Beauty and Belle, so my sister(her aunt) and I are attempting to make her a princess cake for her brithday. We have all the supplies and did a trial run last night we are truly hoping we worked out all the kinks:) haha. So today's challenge is not to bake a cake, but to try something new. Do your order pizza every Friday from the same joint, why not try the new diner in town? Have you been wanting to head to Zumba and just haven't gotten up the motivation to go? What new thing can you particpate in today.

Dave Ramsey- Baby Step 1

A few days ago I began telling your our story of Dave Ramsey and how he has helped us to achieve "Financial Peace." Today I wanted to start telling you a little of what he teaches. He has many books, seminars, etc that dive deep into several financial issues that can build up or tear apart a marriage, family, life.

He has become a millionaire and I have heard him say if you want to become rich then you do what those who are rich do, if you want to become poor than you do what those who are poor do. The first step he teaches is to build a foundation. Start what he calls a "Baby Emergency Fund". You do whatever you can to put $1000 into a savings account to save for life's curve balls. Anytime you experience an emergency you can't plan/budget for this is there to help. These things  will happen it is just a matter of when . Examples may be when you're car breaks down, your water heater goes, or your son breaks his arm. These are all expenses that can ruin a budget and in several American homes end up on a credit card. Having $1000 in the bank will help eliminate creating more debt when these "Murphy's" arise.

It's trash day and as you collect all the garbage do you find your child's lollipop stuck to the bottom of the garbage can? Do they forget to wrap their gum up before throwing it in the trash? Do you get a garbage can for a sick child and have to wash it out for fear the sight at the bottom might induce the puking?

We love to reuse and recycle in this family and though I do use reusable bags I don't always. We typically recycle alot of them(if you have a local giant eagle they usually have a bin out front you can drop them at!), but we use a few each month in our small bedroom/bathroom garbage cans. This serves 2 purposes. #1 It keeps all the grossness in the bag and out of the can(creating less cleaning later) #2 on garbage day you simply take the bag out tie it off and toss it in the big bag.

As I wrote yesterday my daughter turned 3. I can't believe it as any parent I'm sure will agree time goes too fast with little ones. I look back now over the past 3 years at all that has happened from the the time she came home until her first steps and until now. There have been so many moments and a baby book only hold so much. I do scrapbook as well, but though a picture is worth 1000 words they are only the words you can remember. So I have begun to keep a journal for each child this year. I write in it maybe once a week of events that have happened, funny things they said or did. I'm hoping they will have these one day to look back on when they are raising there own children. I know so often we have asked my mother or mother in law what my husband or I used to do and they say "oh what was that thing they used to say" or mom and dad disagree. Well now here is the cold hard proof haha:) Now as for her birthday I thought what can I do to write something very special and I found an idea(Pinterest) to write  20 questions and answer them. Each year have her answer the same questions and see how the answers change over the years. 3 was a fantastic age to start this, I had to verbally change the questions a little so she could understand.(ie. What's your favorite movie? became What's your favorite thing to watch on TV at quiet time?), but we had a lot of fun. Below I will list the 20 questions I used. I also left space if you can see for her to write her name at the end so each year we can visibly see the changes there as well:) 

1. What is your name? 2. What is your favorite color? 3.What is your favorite food? 4.What is your favorite movie? 5. What is your favorite book? 6. Who is your best friend? 7. Daily Challenge

Today is my little girls birthday  she turns 3! I can't believe it the past few years have just flown by as I'm sure any mother can relate. Today's challenge was to do something special with her and just her. I have other kids in my home so often specail things are for all the kids, but I feel on their birthday they should have a few extra minutes of undivided "special time" So today we took a few minutes and painted her nails for the first time. She was so excited. I will update with a picture later, but wanted to get challenging you to do something special for one you love.

My girls' birthdays are  Jan 21st and Feb 8th.... with all the fun and celebration comes along things like annual doctors appointments. We will be heading there tonight  in fact and although this appointment is scheduled I find that I often procrastinate when making appointments. So today call and make an appointment. Whether it's to get your oil changed, hair cut, or a check-up pick up the phone and call. Even though I will be making my daughters' next doctor's appointment tonight I am not exempt as I plan to call and make my husband a hair appointment today also:) What appointment can you check off your list?

So I've decided since this blog is about how to make the most of what God has blessed you with I cannot do it without sharing the wonderful world of Dave Ramsey. I was first introduced to him as a college student by my stepmother. Back then she gave me his book and it went with the rest of the ones she had given me... on a shelf! I didn't read often, I was not a mischievous teen at all I just had no interest in someone telling me what to do with my money so there it sat.


At the age of 20 I moved out I began working 2 jobs and went to school full time and had a home to pay bills for. I decided to pull that book off the shelf one night. What interesting information he did actually offer. Some of it was above my head as I don't claim to be a financical guru, but the basic concepts were easy. I began to apply them and between then and now I have married my wonderful husband,had to wonderful children, purchased our home, put a huge addition on our home(pictures to come), bought and paid for all new appliances, purchased a new living room suite, paid cash for several cars, and I have quit my job to stay home with our girls. Now all that you may ask what kind of job my husband has. He works incredibly hard, but it is all manual labor in a factory. He has no high paying job, no bonuses,and crappy health insurance. We have learned to do the best we can with what God has blessed us with. Dave Ramsey's principles have helped us along the way.

Today's challenge springs from last night. My wonderfully pottytrained daughter decided to have an accident.... IN MY BED! Ahh gotta love kids:).  So today I am washing sheets, cleaning my mattress, etc. While I'm at it I will be flipping my mattress today so if you have a mattress that needs flipping get to it:)

I've learned to take the guesswork out of mornings by prematching outfits. It simplifies the start of the day and it allows my daughter(3) to be involved in picking her own clothes. As I fold my laundry I simply match outfits immediately before putting them away.
